Karen Scarborough - Oil
Kam before the Storm by Karen Scarborough
Secret Beach by Karen Scarborough
Karen grew up in Ben Lomond, California. After visiting Maui annually since 1967, she settled in Wailea in 2003.
Karen's first art teacher was 99 years old, Louise Cunningham, who graduated from the Mark Hopkins Art School in 1898 in San Francisco. She taught Karen how to paint the light and atmosphere with true old school lessons. After she died at age 105, Karen didn't paint for 20 years, while she raised her three children.
In 2000, Karen finally started oil painting again and she can be found huddled under a palm tree almost every morning and late afternoon capturing the elusive colors and shadows.
Karen jokes that she got her artistic degree out of university or the school of hit and miss. She feels blessed to paint the beauty and color Maui.
