Kirk Boes - Oil
By Kirk Boes
Kirk has always loved art and music. His father was both a musician and artist and he modeled the joy of a creative spirit. Kirk began painting plein air and selling his work in the 1980’s. He studied as he painted and was drawn by the work of the impressionists.
Kirk especially studied Van Gogh by travelling to view his work in museums in Holland and France. People say his name when they see Kirk's work fairly often. Apparently they see the influence. Kirk loves the nontraditional use of color and often paints straight from the tube using a palette knife, as did Van Gogh.
Today Kirk understands that his artwork is an intimate reflection of his life’s journey. Each piece of art marks a moment in time along his path. It is very personal. Kirk says "I love making that special connection with people when they enjoy a specific piece of my art.”
Kirk was born in Newport Beach, California. His family moved to Lahaina in 1973. He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he studied music and art. He married his true love, Laura, in 1986.
